Village Life

The Central Zionist Archives holds a rich and diverse collection of posters and handbills from the period of the Yishuv and the early years of the State of Israel. The posters and handbills were displayed on bulletin boards around the cities, and that way messages and information were transferred to the wider public. The posters and handbills were used to address a wide array of subjects: Zionism, settlements, security, art, theater, health and more.
 
Life on the kibbutz and in the village was a central ideal of the Zionist movement because working the land and settlement are an inseparable part of kibbutz life. The JNF published many posters depicting typical images from the day to day life of the kibbutz and the village: the various agricultural branches of the kibbutz, unique buildings and the caring for animals. All the posters depict pastoral and green landscapes, and a peace and quiet that just makes one want to move to the village…
