Computerized Database

Preserving the past, providing access today, promoting research in the future

We are pleased to welcome you to the CZA's computerized database and to ease your access to millions of digitized documents.
Computers, digitization and internet have changed the way the world works and digital archives are widely recognized as a crucial component of a global information infrastructure for the 21st century. Since the 1990's the CZA we has adopted these technologies to help you access the millions of pieces of information and many of the documents stored in our 16 store-rooms.
While the digital surrogate is not intended to replace the invaluable original, we are happy to provide access to the digitized copy and in this way promote further research into the history of the Zionist movement, pre-State Israel and the early years of the State.
As of now, and with the generous help of many partners, we have entered 533,000 metadata descriptions into our database, scanned 11,649,000 documents, 715,000 photographs, 27,000 posters and announcements, and 127,000 maps and settlement plans. In addition, there are 2,343,000 scans and metadata descriptions in the Family Research Section.
The database is in accordance with international standards of archival description, and the search engine provides access in compliance with the multi-level approach of these standards.

The large-scale computerization and digitization projects were made possible thanks to the generous help of various institutions and friends of the Archives.
