Introductory Genealogy Course

 

 

The Central Zionist Archives is happy to announce the opening of an introductory genealogy course. The course caters to those who wish to acquire knowledge and proficiency in the field.
The goals of the course:
 
  • To impart basic knowledge on a variety of subjects related to the field
  • To introduce the wide plethora of genealogical sources available in different institutions and on the internet
  • To impart basic proficiency that will enable the participants to conduct research regarding their own genealogical tree
The program:
 
The course will open on November 8th' 2012, and will include 12 meetings. The first four will take place at the Central Zionist Archives, and the rest of the course will be held in different archives, in order to introduce the various resources available for genealogical research. These institutions include:
  • Yad Vashem
  • The Israel State Archives
  • The National Library
  • The Central Archives of the History of the Jewish People
  • The Jerusalem City Archives
  • Beit Hatfutsot
The meetings  will take place on Thursday every other week between 16:00 and 19:00 and will include:
 
  • First meeting: an introduction to genealogy, how to construct a family tree.
  • Second meeting:  places of residence of the Jews, border changes, immigration maps
  • Third meeting:  family names, their origins and meaning.
  • Fourth meeting: how to search various data bases
