The Grand Mills of Israel is a flour mill that was founded in 1921 by the Baron de Rothschild, in order to buy
wheat grown in Palestine by Jews, and thus to help the farmers make a living by working the land. The
produce was intended for sale in Palestine and abroad.
The mill, which was founded in Haifa, garnered a lot of attention. When its construction was finished, the
people of Haifa came together to celebrate the occasion. The mill's building was amongst the biggest that was
built at that time in Palestine. The mill became active in 1923, and quickly became known for the quality of its
flour. In later years, a matzah factory was built in its compound. The flour and the matzah produced at the mill
were sold around the world. The Grand Mills continues to be active today, and markets various kinds of flour.
