Posters for Shavuot

The Feast of Weeks (Shavuot) marked the beginning of the harvest season during the biblical period, and also marked the bringing of the first fruits to the temple in Jerusalem. According to Jewish tradition, Shavuot was the day the Torah was given to Israel. The Jews who came to Palestine at the beginning of the twentieth century were happy to adopt the agricultural holiday and created suitable costumes for it. The kibbutzim and the villages conducted special ceremonies on Shavuot, in which they brought baskets with fruits and held shows of singing and dancing. The posters below show ceremonies of the first fruits of Shavuot and the receiving of the Torah.
