Shlomo Narinsky

Shlomo Narinsky (1885-1960) was born in Southern Russia (Ukraine of today). He studied photography in Paris and Berlin in 1904-1905. A short time after returning to Russia he immigrated to Palestine and opened a photography studio in Jerusalem. In these years he made a postcard collection of Palestine, some of which is displayed here.

Narinsky's photography is influenced by the works of European photographers of the 19th century, that depicted the Land of Israel as the Holy Land, the cradle of the Bible. His use of light and shadow lends the photos a soft and romantic air, as if they are pictures of a  fairy tale.
