The British began an extensive operation against the Yishuv. A curfew was imposed on many cities; house to house searches were made and a few of the Yishuv leaders were arrested.
Herbert Samuel, who grew up in a Jewish home, is appointed as High Commissioner of Palestine with the start of the British mandate.
On June 30, 1937, the first religious kibbutz, "Tirat-Tzvi" was established in the south of Beit Shean valley. For many years the kibbutz marked the southern borders of the Jordan valley.
