Like the Hashmonaim in the days of the Second Temple, the Zionist Movement also struggled for liberation from the shackles of foreign powers and the fulfillment of political independence in the Land of Israel. The Hashmonaim became a symbol of the strong Jew, able to stand up and protect his interests, an antithesis of the docile and submissive Jews of the diaspora.

On the occasion of the upcoming festival of Hannukah, we gathered some posters and photos related to the holiday. This gallery depicts how the motifs of the holiday- light and heroism- were celebrated by the yishuv in the beginning of the 20th century.
